At the Center, the patient is seen as an integral part of the team. This comes from our underlying belief that curing goes beyond the traditional “doctor-patient” model which begins with the doctor prescribing “the cure.” Instead, we have a more holistic model, where the physical, emotional, psychological and social needs of each individual come into play. Together with the patient, we design a therapeutic plan that takes into consideration all of these elements and his/her priorities and time frames. We have an interdisciplinary approach whereby we avail ourselves of all of the professionals from various departments within our institution. The following are often present in meetings regarding planning patient therapies: pathologist, neurosurgeon, neurologist, oncologist, radiologist, and radiotherapist. The therapeutic plan is designed accordino to national and international guidelines established by the regognized scientific associations/organizations (ILAE, LICE, EANO, AIOM, AAN). Our Center is structured in such a manner as to provide patients assistance with reintegration into social, family and work life. Patients and their families are guaranteed the support they need for the entire duration of their illness. Our Center becomes an important reference point and provides an on-going support network whereby the National Tumor Institute’s Neuro-Oncological Home Care program coordinates regional and local resources along with the patient’s primary care physician.
